Q3W4 Jan 29- Feb 2

  First Grade News

Dear Parents,

We hope you had a great weekend!

In Literature this week, we will begin reading A Bargain for Frances. We will focus on strategies for retelling a story in sequence and also hone in on the virtue of friendship.  Scholars will continue writing their very own personal narrative story; working on the rough draft, making edits to improve the story, and write a final version of their own personal narrative story.

We have began reading A Bargain For Frances today.  Please send this classic with your scholar ASAP.

In Math, we will start Chapter 8, covering numbers to 120.  We will focus on comparing/ordering, counting and making groups of tens, reading and writing the numbers using digits and words as well as place value skills.  Check out the Chapter 8 home letter for tips on how to practice these skills with your scholar.

In History, we will continue our learning about early civilizations of the Americas; focusing on the Maya, Aztec and Incan people.  We will uncover details about their way of life, belief systems and how these civilizations came to an end.

For the last few weeks, we have been waiting patiently for our chicken life cycle project to culminate with the hatching of our chicks.  We should see some exciting changes this week.  I'm sure your scholars will be excited to tell you all about it on hatching day. 😊

Thank you so much for your continued support and partnership.  Have a wonderful week.
