First Grade News
Dear Parents,
We hope you had a wonderful weekend! We enjoyed seeing you and your family on Friday evening, for the GHNO Annual Art Show. It was wonderful! We are very excited for our final literature celebration this year on Thursday, April 4th. Just a reminder: If you haven't already sent in your non perishable donations, please do so.
Please send in the classic The Selected Tales of Beatrix Potter. If you were not able to purchase this classic, please let your scholar's teacher know.
If you have not already, please take a moment to look over the permission slip for our Solar Eclipse, and submit it at your earliest convenience. You can find the permission slip here.
In Literature, we will compare Sam The Minuteman to another historical fiction story, George The Drummer Boy. Scholars will be expected to recite their poem Windy Nights on April 4th. In Grammar/Writing, scholars will focus on writing complete sentences citing textual evidence and complete a writing page reflecting on all that we have learned in the month of March.
In Math, we will continue in Chapter 9, addition and subtraction skills for numbers to 100. This week we will focus on strategies of subtracting ones from a 2-digit number, both without and with renaming and subtracting tens from a 2-digit number. Scholars will review addition strategies as well to prepare for a chapter test.
In History, we will continue with our unit over the American Revolution and uncover how the battles at Lexington and Concord sparked the American Revolution. We will focus on the role of Benjamin Franklin in drafting the Declaration of Independence and all of his wonderful inventions.
In Science, we will continue the study of the solar system. Look for a study guide in your scholar's red folder on Wednesday.
Thank you so much for your continued support and partnership. Have a wonderful week.
