Q1 W2 Aug. 19 - 23

                                             First Grade News

Dear Parents,

Happy Monday!  We hope your weekend was restful.

Please send in the first classic to keep Frog and Toad Are Friends by Wednesday, 21st. If for any reason you cannot send this book by then, please email your scholar's teacher.

In Literature/Grammar scholars will begin reading similar stories from different lands such as Little Red Riding Hood and Lon Po Po.  Scholars will reflect on the elements of narrative text by comparing characters, plot and setting in these stories.  Scholars will focus on nouns; person, place and thing, as well as the difference between common and proper nouns for people.  We will also begin reading our first classic Frog and Toad Are Friends.

In Math, we will focus on numbers from 1-10, counting on and back within 10 and comparing groups of objects to find which has more than, as many as or fewer/less than.

In Science scholars will focus on what makes them a scientist, the steps of the scientific method and lab safety.  We will also begin covering the layers of the ocean.

Today, scholars came home with their first Spalding homework assignment.  Please encourage your scholar to complete with neatness and accuracy as you dictate the phonograms.  Your scholar will also bring math homework on Tuesday.  Please have your scholar read the directions with you to become use to reading them independently later.  Homework is due the next school day and should not take longer than 30 minutes to complete.

Thank you for your partnership in helping your scholar with their reading and homework and to arrive to school on time.  Keep up the momentum and have a blessed week.  😊
