First Grade News
Dear Parents,
Happy Tuesday! We hope you had a wonderful three-day weekend.
In Literature/Grammar, scholars will continue reading similar stories from different lands such as Thumbelina and Little Finger in the Watermelon Patch. Scholars will reflect on the elements of narrative text by comparing characters, plot and setting in these stories as well as stories from Frog and Toad Are Friends. Scholars will focus on names as proper nouns.
This week your scholar will learn a new poem, "Bird Talk", focusing on the elements of poetry: rhyme, rhythm, stanza. Look for this poem to come home in their red folder this week.
In Math, we will review all that we learned about numbers from 1-10 and take a chapter test. Extra practice at home of counting on/back within 10, number bonds and missing parts, comparing groups of objects (any small objects you have on hand) to find which has greater/less and finding how many more or less will help your scholar to do well.
In Science, we will jump right into our unit on matter (solid, liquid and gas) and look at properties of solids and liquids.
Thank you for your partnership in helping your scholar with their reading, completing their homework neatly and to arrive to school on time. Keep up the momentum and have a blessed week. 😊
Go Griffins!
