  First Grade News

Dear Parents, 

Happy Monday!  We hope you had a wonderful weekend!

In Literature/Grammar, scholars will continue reading similar stories from different lands such as Thumbelina and Little Finger in the Watermelon Patch.  Scholars will reflect on the elements of narrative text by comparing characters, plot and setting in these stories as well as stories from Frog and Toad Are Friends.  Scholars will focus on names as proper nouns. 

 In Math we are naming the missing part of a number bond also naming number pairs that make 10. They are counting and adding groups of objects. They tell and solve additional stories when adding more objects to a group.

In Science scholars will learn about matter, including what makes matter and the properties of matter. Scholars will discover the 3 states of matter to include solids, liquid and gas with a focus on categorizing each state.

This week, scholars are learning 15 new Spalding words. They will have their spelling test over these words on Friday.

Spalding homework will be assigned Monday through Thursday each week. Please make sure your scholar completes and returns their homework each day.

Each week, scholars will also have their WPR Quiz on Thursday. Please have your scholar practice their phonograms daily at home to help them prepare for their weekly quiz.
