Q1W5 Sept 8-12

    First Grade News

Dear Parents,

Happy Monday!  We hope you had a wonderful weekend.

Reading Logs will be coming home today!  Please send in the next classic Frog and Toad Together by Friday 9/19.

In Literature/Grammar, scholars will review the stories in the classic Frog and Toad Are Friends and take a comprehension quiz.  We will focus on story sequencing, looking at the beginning, middle and end of a narrative text.  Scholars will focus on common and proper nouns for places.

This week your scholar will be reciting the poem " I'm Glad" for a grade on Tuesday. They will also begin reviewing the poem "Bird Talk", focusing on the elements of poetry: rhyme, rhythm, stanza. A copy of the poem will be sent home on this week.

In Math, we will continue to make addition stories within 10.  Scholars will practice addition strategies of putting two groups together, counting on when adding to a number, using number bonds and writing equations for our addition facts within 10.  Scholars will also identify equations as true or false.

In History, we will continue learning about the ancient civilization of Mesopotamia.  We will focus on the inventions and laws of this civilization.  A study guide will come home on Wednesday, with a test on this unit Friday.  Later in the week, we will begin our unit covering Ancient Egypt.  Get ready for a new song!

Thank you for your partnership in helping your scholar with their reading, completing their homework neatly and to arrive to school on time.  Keep up the momentum and have a great week.  😊
