First Grade News
Dear Parents,
Happy Tuesday! We hope you had a wonderful long weekend.
Reading Logs will be coming home today! Please send in the next classic Frog and Toad Together by Friday 9/18.
In Literature/Grammar, scholars will review the stories in the classic Frog and Toad Are Friends and take a comprehension quiz. We will focus on story sequencing, looking at the beginning, middle and end of a narrative text. Scholars will focus on common and proper nouns for places.
This week your scholar will begin reviewing the poem "Bird Talk", focusing on the elements of poetry: rhyme, rhythm, stanza. A copy of the poem will be sent home on this week.
In Math we are using picture cutouts (or other manipulative) to illustrate the meaning of addition.
We will write number sentences for given situations involving addition. We will start Rocket Math and we will have Chapter 2 Test on Thursday.

This week in History we will be exploring where civilization began, Mesopotamia. We will learn that this region of the world is called the Cradle of Civilization, discover the inventions that were created, and how laws were implemented to maintain order as people moved from nomadic to permanent settlements.
This week, scholars are learning 15 new Spalding words. They will have their spelling test over these words on Friday.
Spalding homework will be assigned Monday through Thursday each week. Please make sure your scholar completes and returns their homework each day.
Each week, scholars will also have their WPR Quiz on Thursday. Please have your scholar practice their phonograms daily at home to help them prepare for their weekly quiz.
