First Grade News
Dear Parents,
We hope you had a great weekend.
Scholars need to bring the classic Frog and Toad Together by Friday the 18th.
In Literature, we will continue to focus on beginning, middle and end as we read When Tigger Comes to the Forest. In Writing/Grammar, we will continue to look at common and proper nouns for people and places as have an introduction to two types of sentences; declarative and interrogative.
Scholars will continue practicing "Bird Talk" and will recite it the week of Sept 28th.
In Math this week we will continue to use picture cutouts (or other manipulative) to illustrate the meaning of addition. We also will write number sentences for given situations involving addition.

For this week in Science we will continue to explore matter, looking at the different states and ways they transform. We will discover how applying heat to a solid can turn it into a liquid and cooling a liquid can turn it into a solid. Towards the end of the week, we will turn our focus to the earth as we examine the properties of rock and soil. Your scholar will be asked to bring a small rock from home to observe for an activity on Friday.
In History, we will finish up our Mesopotamian Unit with a test on Tuesday. A song is coming home today to help scholars remember key terms they will need for the test.
This week, scholars are learning 15 new Spalding words. They will have their spelling test over these words on Friday.
Spalding homework will be assigned Monday through Thursday each week. Please make sure your scholar completes and returns their homework each day.
Each week, scholars will also have their WPR Quiz on Thursday. Please have your scholar practice their phonograms daily at home to help them prepare for their weekly quiz.
Please encourage your scholar to use their very best handwriting on both their homework and tests. We appreciate your help reinforcing neat and careful handwriting at home!
Thank you for your partnership and have a blessed week.
Go Griffins!
