First Grade News
Dear Parents,
We hope you had a great weekend! We enjoyed seeing many of our families at family game night on Friday!
In Literature this week, we will begin practicing our new poem, The Swing, by Robert Louis Stevenson. We will also read and analyze another poem called The Puffin. Finally, we will learn about adjectives and complete a self-portrait using words that describe us.
Please send in Owl At Home by Monday, February 16th.
In Math, we will continue Chapter 8 and begin counting money, focusing on the values of pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters. Scholars will practice changing coins for the same value and adding up sets of coins to determine the amount of money. Identifying and adding coins at home is an excellent way to support your scholar in these skills.
In Science, scholars will explore magnets and investigate push and pull forces and friction. We will explore various items to determine whether or not the object is magnetic or non-magnetic.
Our chicken life cycle project culminated this past week with the hatching of our chicks. Scholars were excited to see them before they were returned home to one of our fabulous team members.
Thank you so much for your continued support and partnership. Have a wonderful week.
