First Grade News
Dear Parents,
We hope you had a wonderful weekend! It's the final countdown to summer and we are still learning so many things in first grade. The days are becoming warmer and sunnier. Please ensure your scholar has a refillable water bottle to take to recess. Parents may apply sunscreen before school if you feel the need.
As we are fast approaching the end of the school year, please keep a few things in mind when planning for vacation. The first is that at GHNO we continue instruction and learning until the very last day of school, May 22nd. The second is that on Friday, May 22nd, we will have a cumulative math assessment as well as a final Spalding test. These tests will not be given early. Please plan to have your scholar present for these assessments. If you have any questions, please reach out to your scholar's teacher.
*As a reminder, we will not be sending classroom readers or reading logs home next week. You may send in some books from home for your scholar to keep in their desk to enjoy after their check-in or if they finish an assignment early. All readers need to be sent in this Friday. Please continue to make reading a priority with your scholar by reading a book of choice at home. They have grown so much in their reading abilities this year. Keep that momentum going! 😀
This week in Literature, we will review all the wonderful literature we have read together. We will complete writing pages reflecting on our favorites. In Grammar/Writing, scholars will complete our unit on poetry; writing a final poem about themselves in their poetry portfolio.
In Math, we will continue Chapter 12 reviewing telling and writing time to the hour and half hour.
In History, we will cover all things Texas! We will focus on Texas symbols, landmarks, as well as some of the important people who influenced what our great state has come to be.
Thank you so much for your continued support and partnership. Have a wonderful week.
Go Griffins!
