   First Grade News

Dear Parents,

We hope you had a wonderful weekend!  It was such a joy to see you all, Friday evening, at the Spring Music Concert.  We are so proud of all the hard work our scholars put into their performance.

As we are fast approaching the end of the school year, please keep a few things in mind when planning for vacation.  The first is that at GHNO we continue instruction and learning until the very last day of school, May 22nd.  The second is that on Friday, May 22nd, we will have a cumulative math assessment as well as a final Spalding test.  These tests will not be given early.  Please plan to have your scholar present for these assessments.  If you have any questions, please reach out to your scholar's teacher.

This week in Literature, we will continue to read My Father's DragonIn Grammar/Writing, scholars will begin our unit on poetry.  We will cover different styles of poetry as well as write some poems of our own.

In Math, we will continue Chapter 11 reviewing what we know about 2-D and 3-D shapes. We will begin Chapter 12, covering time.

In Science, we will continue learning about the solar system and build a book with facts about the inner and outer planets.  We will cover the moon and stars and how they change in the sky.  We will also learn about the different types of weather and the scholars will create a weather chart, recording their observations over the course of a week.
