First Grade News
Dear Parents,
We hope you had a nice, long weekend! We are looking forward to seeing you in our classrooms for Open House this week. New sign-ups are currently closed.
In Literature this week, we will continue reading Owl at Home. Please send in Owl At Home. We will continue reading some of Aesop's Fables, focusing on "The Maid and the Milk Pail" and "The Boy Who Cried Wolf". Scholars will reflect on the meaning of a popular saying, "Don't Count Your Chickens Before They Are Hatched". In Writing, we will begin to focus on procedural, or "how-to", writing. Scholars will write an example of a "How-to Plant A Seed". We will focus on using concise language and the transition words "first, next, then, last" as we write.
In Math, we will wrap-up Chapter 8, with a test on Friday. Please be on the look out for a math study guide on Thursday.
In History, we will make connections between the Mayan and Aztec ancient civilizations and the influence they have had on the culture of Mexico today. We will learn about the culture of Mexico today; focusing on the geography of Mexico, celebrations and holidays as well as key dates in the history of Mexico.
Thank you so much for your continued support and partnership. Have a wonderful week.
