First Grade News
Dear Parents,
We hope you were able to enjoy some of the beautiful weather this weekend. Thank you so much to all the parents that were able to visit last week during Open House. It was a joy to welcome you into the classrooms and share what we have the privilege to see everyday in our scholars' growth and learning.
Reminders: please send in 50 pennies with your scholar in preparation for our American Revolution unit by Thursday, Feb 29th.
In Literature this week, we will continue reading Aesop's Fables, focusing on "Fox and Grapes", "Goose and the Golden Egg" and, "the Dog in the Manger". In Writing, we will continue to focus on procedural, or "how-to", writing. Scholars will write an example of a "How-to" using a topic of their choosing. We will focus on using concise language and the transition words "first, next, then, last" as we write.
In Math, we are starting Chapter 9, addition and subtraction skills for numbers to 100. This week we will focus on adding tens to a 2-digit number and adding two 2-digit numbers.
In Science, scholars will investigate simple machines, focusing on ramps, wheels and axles, pulleys, levers, wedges and screw. Scholars will have a chance to build some simple machines as part of our investigations. We are excited to see how the scholars connect to our simple machines project. Please look for a packet coming home this week with information about this project.
Simple machines projects are due Monday, March 18th. Please reach out to your scholar's teacher with any questions.
Thank you so much for your continued support and partnership. Have a wonderful week.
