First Grade News
Dear Parents,
Welcome to the 7th week of quarter three!
In Literature this week, we will continue reading Owl at Home. We also read more of Aesop's Fables, focusing on "The Dog in the Manger," and the "Maid and the Milk Pail." Scholars will continue to practice "The Swing" poem as they prepare to recite it for the class the first week of March. Please encourage them to practice at home and demonstrate how we are learning to act it out in class. In Writing, we will focus on procedural, or "how-to," writing. Scholars will select a topic to teach us about! We will use concise language and the transition words "first, next, then, last" as we write.
In Math, we will take a test over Chapter 8 on Tuesday the 25th. Please review the study guide that will be sent home on the 24th with your scholars. We will begin Chapter 9, Addition and Subtraction, within 100 on Wednesday. This is a challenging unit for most scholars. Please review their homework with them nightly and encourage them to explain what they are learning about new concepts.
In History, we will continue learning about the culture of Mexico today, focusing on its geography, celebrations, holidays, and key dates in its history. In Science, we will end our unit on movement and begin learning about simple machines.
Thank you so much for your continued support and partnership. Have a wonderful week.
