Q3W8

 First Grade News

Dear Parents,

We hope you enjoyed the beautiful weather this weekend.  We are in the final week of Quarter 3 and wish your family a fun-filled Spring Break next week.

Please take note that, the Simple Machine Project is due Wednesday, March 5th. Scholars will present their projects on Thursday, March 6th.

In Literature this week, we will wrap up Aesop's Fables, recite The Swing poem on Wednesday the 5th, and continue reading Owl at Home. Our writing assignments will center around our new science unit about how our bodies work.

In Math, we will continue in Chapter 9, addition and subtraction skills for numbers up to 100. This week, we will focus on adding 2-digit and 1-digit numbers with and without renaming.

In History, we will continue our unit on the American Revolution, focusing on taxation and the Boston Tea Party. (Shhh, this next bit is a surprise!) This week, scholars will be visited by King George III's British soldiers (our fifth-grade sister classes) and ordered to pay taxes. The colonists of First Grade will soon understand the frustration the American colonists felt over 200 years ago.  Please send 50 pennies to school marked with your scholar's name if you can. We will return them to you at the end of the unit.

In Science, we begin our body unit by learning how our muscles function.

Thank you so much for your continued support and partnership.  Have a wonderful week.

Go Griffins!
