First Grade News
Dear Parents,
Hopefully, you enjoyed the beautiful weather this weekend.
This week in Literature this week, we will begin Sam The Minuteman and relate this historical fiction to what we are learning about the American Revolution. The school will provide copies of this out-of-print book for your scholar. If you want to buy a copy for your home, this link will provide you with an option for purchasing out-of-print books: https://www.betterworldbooks.com/product/detail/sam-the-minuteman-9780064441070. In grammar/writing, scholars will focus on writing complete sentences and citing textual evidence as we learn how our bodies function.
In Math, we will continue in Chapter 9, addition and subtraction skills for numbers up to 100. This week, we will focus on addition strategies for two-digit numbers with and without renaming and subtracting ones and tens from two-digit numbers.
In History, we will continue with our unit on the American Revolution, focusing on the role of Benjamin Franklin as a colonial leader. Last week, our colonial scholars delivered a letter to King George III, imploring him to reconsider his unfair taxes or face a colonial uprising. We are now awaiting his response.
In Science, we will continue the study of human body systems, covering the skeletal, digestive, and respiratory systems this week.
Please note that because of lost instructional time during recent bad weather, Monday, April 21st will now be a school day.
All North Texas and San Antonio Academies will conduct regular classes on this date.
Daily attendance is vital to the success and health of our academies and directly impacts our public funding. Please make any necessary arrangements to ensure your scholar is present on Monday, April 21st.
Thank you for your flexibility and continued partnership. If you have any questions or concerns, contact our campus front office.
Thank you so much for your continued support and partnership. Have a wonderful week.
Go Griffins!
